Won a competition but no prize

won a competition but no prize

You’ve got to ask yourself one question. Everyone needs a hobby but mine isn’t your typical pastime. Instead of playing golf, collecting stamps or going on the occasional fishing trip, I enter competitions. Over the last few years I’ve won tickets to world premieres, shopping vouchers, holidays, clothes and numerous smaller prizes. I was browsing forums online and came across a whole community of compers. After spending a bit of time reading about how Mrs Smith from Cornwall won a holiday to Dubai and Mr Jones won a brand new Mini just from entering competitions, my first thought was that I wanted a piece of that. What started off as entering the odd competition here and there soon become an obsession where I was entering 100s a day. I got the bug and I would get up at 5am each morning to start entering them before the family woke up. I started to win quite a bit too.

There are literally thousands of competitions that you can enter at any given time and if you are serious about winning, you need to know where to find them. You can also find competitions on items in the supermarket, in your local newspaper and all across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Does it take up much time? The simple answer is yes, yes it does. When I was entering competitions a few years back I would easily spend three or four hours each day searching and entering every competition I could find. Every bit of spare time I had would be dedicated to comping. I’d won kept me entering more. Although this sounds amazing it hasn’t been easy. For every prize I have won there have been 1,000s I’ve lost. Look for local competitions where there will be a lot fewer entries, enter competitions that require you to do more than submit details and get into a consistent routine of entering them each day. Social media is also a hotbed for competitions, especially on Twitter. What would you most like to win?

Type”:”poll”,”leadtext”:””,”question”:”What would you most like to win? Is it worth the time and effort? When I was entering competitions on a large scale it was because I had a lot of spare time. I worked shifts so I always had a few hours in the morning or evening to myself. Looking back I have been extremely lucking to win some fantastic prizes but take those away and it can be a lot of effort for very little reward. You can also look at it a different way. If you like to settle down in front of the TV during the evening, it doesn’t take much effort to have a laptop in front of you entering competitions at the same time. And, if you do start to win the odd prize it will be like Christmas all year long. Yahoo or Gmail offer free email accounts and they are easy to set up. It’s no good entering and winning a competition for a holiday in the Bahamas if you can’t take your children!

If you do start to win a few competitions, note down what you won and when. If you go through a barren period of not winning you can look back at this to keep you motivated. If you wake up each morning telling yourself it’s going to be a rubbish day then it probably will be. If you don’t believe you will ever win then you probably won’t.
