All three will be invited to the FIA awards ceremony on 7th December in St. The European Champions, the winner of the International Super Cup, the top three of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy and the FIA Karting Endurance Champion have also been recognised. Koen Lemmens, for the very high quality of the organisation of the FIA Karting World Championship – KZ, the FIA Karting International Super Cup – KZ2, the final FIA Karting Academy Trophy Competition and the FIA Karting Historic Super Cup on the Belgian Horensbergdam circuit in Genk, “the Home of Champions”. Outgoing CIK-FIA Vice-President Kees van de Grint received the trophy “In honour of his long and exceptional contribution to Karting” for his decisive action during his eight years term. The guests then voted on the 2018 photographic competition. French photographer Philippe Kalmès of the KSP Reportages agency won the 12th FIA Karting “Best Picture of the Year” trophy. The evening was punctuated by the projection of beautiful videos retracing the past sporting year. The guests received the traditional “Best-Of” published by the CIK-FIA, a superb collector’s book of more than 145 pages in large format, recalling the highlights of the 2018 season in text and images. CIK FIA closes the 2018 season in style, bidding farewell to all the year’s protagonists. In addition to the World Champions, European Champions and podiums, among the prize winners, due awards to the winners of the 24h of Le Mans, best rookie of the year, best event of the year and more. In 2014 FIA inaugurated a new format where FIA Champions and guests take part in a competition held at a karting track designed by Herman Tilke, under the direction of F1 race director Charlie Whiting. The day culminates with a glamorous two-part ceremony celebrating the FIA champions. The FIA Personality of the Year award sees permanently accredited media from the FIA’s World Championships honour the competitor or figure who they believe achieved an exceptional performance this season. This figure can be a driver, a team manager, an official, a volunteer, etc. The FIA Action of the Year award allows motorsport fans to choose their defining event of the sporting year. Max Verstappen’s stunning pass of Nico Rosberg in last month’s Formula 1 Grande Premio do Brasil 2016 has won this year’s FIA Action of the Year prize. Verstappen was also voted Personality of the Year. The Red Bull driver’s overtake was up against eight similarly entertaining moments from other FIA-sanctioned racing series, with fans voting online for their favourite, and Verstappen received the award at Friday evening’s FIA Prize Giving Gala in the Austrian capital of Vienna. Remarkably, it is the Dutchman’s third victory in a row in the category, having scooped the same award last year for his daring move around the outside of Sauber’s Felipe Nasr at Spa-Francorchamps’ fearsome Blanchimont corner during the 2015 Belgian Grand Prix. The year before he won it for a spectacular last-lap pass of 2016 GP2 Series runner-up Antonio Giovinazzi in a European F3 race at Imola. In the Personality of the Year stakes, voted for by the media, Verstappen picked up the prize for the second time in succession. This year, the FIA is broadcasting the Prize Gala on Facebook.
